Planting seeds today so our descendants can enjoy the shade

Illustrated image of a plant growing into a tree.

We need to reduce and remove emissions to keep global warming below 1.5℃. Climate change also accelerates land degradation and droughts that disrupt food production.

We cultivate microalgae in the vast desert to serve two goals – boosting food security and removing CO2. By harnessing sunlight, arid desert land, and wastewater, we are turning deserts into green fertile grounds.

HyveGeo is built on these principles

  • We need all solutions to solve society’s grand challenges
  • Let science guide us to innovate effective solutions
  • Harness regional natural advantages to develop scalable solutions, rather than a one-size approach
  • Amplify our impact by addressing interconnected challenges

Cultivating change one gigaton at a time

Our circular approach leverages microalgae’s rapid growth and photosynthetic efficiency to transform large amounts of CO2 into sustainable feedstock. This is used to generate agronomic products to regenerate non-arable land and improve soil health.

Our Mission

We are committed to combating climate change, enhancing food security, and pioneering innovative solutions for a resilient future. With microalgae, our superheroes of regeneration, we are on a mission to transform arid lands in the UAE and beyond. Through our cutting-edge science and technology, we are on a quest to remove gigaton-scale emissions and regenerate thousands of hectares into fertile grounds.

Dr Francisco Martin Martinez

Founding member Scientific Advisor

Fran is a Lecturer at Swansea University and a Research Affiliate at MIT. He is a trained chemical engineer and works on materials for a circular economy. His work includes two main areas: How to design (computationally) and create materials out of waste and design materials for deconstruction and performance. The idea goes beyond recycling since the materials should be intrinsically created and reintegrated into the materials cycle. This is inspired by nature if we see nature’s circularity, for instance, in plants. In the big picture, it implies valorizing any type of waste and moving from a linear economy to a circular one using materials resources and their application. Some other areas he works on are energy storage, infrastructure, and agriculture.
